Le Clos du Caillou" Estate
The estate is located in the commune of Courthézon, ideally situated to the north-east of the “Châteauneuf du Pape” appellation in Vaucluse.
The vineyard covers 9 hectares in the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation and 44 hectares in the Côtes du Rhône appellation. Le Clos is located in the middle of the
Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, and currently covers 17 hectares of vines on exceptional terroirs, producing great, rich, silky wines.
The vineyard is rich in red grape varieties, offering a wide range of aromas and highly complex wines. Grenache makes up the majority of the estate’s vines, adapting easily to the hot, dry southern climate. It produces wines of great delicacy. This grape variety, the king of our appellation, blends wonderfully with mourvèdre, syrah, cinsault, carignan, counoise and vaccarése, each bringing its own touch of personality. Whites, represented by viognier, roussanne,
clairette (rose and white), bourboulenc and grenache blanc, account for 10% of production.
Organic farming estate
Concerned with living in harmony with our environment, without disturbing the plant and animal environment already present, the Clos du Caillou vineyard is entirely organic. For several decades, the vineyard has been managed in a reasoned manner, favoring natural methods wherever possible. Claude Pouizin worked his vines mainly with his tractor, a few tools and his own hands. Jean-Denis Vacheron continued to use healthy methods. Today, the philosophy is evolving towards biodynamic viticulture, always with the
aim of authenticity and enhancement of the wines.
Terroir in Vaucluse
Cradled by the Mistral wind, the vineyards benefit from a warm, dry southern climate with plenty of sunshine and irregular rainfall. The wines produced from this terroir are characterized by finesse, elegance, supple tannins and, in general, a very Burgundian style.
