Cycle up Mont Ventoux with Eddy Merckx and 2,500 Belgians!
For nine years now, every year during the transition from spring to summer, a mass of Belgian cyclists has been heading for Vaucluse, under the leadership of Eddy Merckx, nicknamed the Cannibal, to take part in the ‘MONT VENTOUX – Ventourist/La Cannibale’ cycling project, which takes place on and around Mont Ventoux.
It’s a challenge that every cycling enthusiast dreams of accomplishing! So, are you ready for the Challenge?
Mont Ventoux - Ventourisme
1, 2 or 3 Mont Ventoux climbs from Bédoin, Malaucène or Sault.
Refreshments at the start, en route and on the summit will help each participant to complete the climb(s) in a reasonable manner.
Timing is provided to create a reference point with previous or future climbs.
Mont Ventoux - La Cannibale' (The Cannibal)
A 173 km tour with 4,564 metres of ascent and descent, with Mont Ventoux at its centre.
Sporta and Eddy Merckx invite French cycling fans to join them.
Each cyclist rides at his or her own pace from Chalet Reynard to the summit of Mont Ventoux. The descent to Sault is followed by a 100 km loop through marvellous scenery. Four passes await you along the way: Col de l’Homme Mort, Col de Saint-Jean, Col de Perty and Col d’Aulan. The signposted route takes cyclists back to Sault, from where they face Mont Chauve a second time. After crossing the finish line at the summit, they will have covered 173 km and 4,564 metres of ascent and descent.
At various strategic points there will be refreshment stations with drinks and food supplements.
In addition to La Cannibale, there’s also a shortened route: La Cannibalette, a 131 km tour with a 3,560 m vertical drop, in which the Col de Perty and Col de Saint-Jean climbs are omitted. Timing is provided to create a reference point with previous and future climbs.
The "Mont Ventoux- Ventourist / La Cannibale" project
The ‘Mon Ventoux- Ventourist/La Cannibale’ project is part of a sports campaign organized by the Sporta Foundation. Its main aim is to encourage people to swap their sedentary lifestyle for a healthier, more active one. All participants prepare themselves systematically and expertly to become a ‘Ventourist’ or ‘Cannibale’ by pedaling.
