Gordes

Village Du Luberon in Vaucluse

Gordes is a village classified as “one of the most beautiful villages in France”, and a star of the Luberon, where many celebrities and artists have made their home. Gordes is a village that leaves a lasting impression, with its privileged location and typical architecture that leaves no one indifferent! It’s a village to discover…

Standing on its hillside, the village is enthroned by its beauty, its dry-stone houses in white or grey line up in a spiral around the rock on which the village stands, with the church and castle at its summit facing the Luberon hills.

As you stroll through the narrow, winding streets between the village’s tall houses, you’ll come across some superb old doors, expertly restored vaults and flat stone walls, and as you turn onto a terrace, you’ll be treated to a sumptuous panorama of the Luberon valley and mountains.

In the center of the village of Gordes, you can visit its imposing château fortress, which houses the town hall and the Pol Mara museum, a contemporary Flemish painter from the Luberon region.

The curious village of bories is also worth a visit: bories are a kind of small, round, stone-built hut formerly used by shepherds and hunters.

Without a doubt, Gordes is one of the must-sees of the Luberon. The village’s worldwide success and reputation have attracted a wealthy clientele on the lookout for second homes… Peter Mayle’s bestseller A Year in Provence must also have contributed to this…
